Rio - The Movie
Being abroad, I have no respect for Brazilians that act out. I am embarrassed when they try to translate Brazilian expressions thinking they are the funniest ever. I hate seeing Brazilians talking loud in places or talking badly about services, food or anything in here as if Brazil had the best of everything and in spite of that they chose to come and live some place else...
I feel like every country has its ups and downs. While there is no place like home, if you chose to leave your home and go live somewhere else, you must learn that country's culture and learn to appreciate the good things about it and manage through the pitfalls.
Having said that, I am a proud Brazilian, and yesterday I was even prouder. I was in that World Cup state of mind if you know what I mean... I felt like wearing my yellow jersey and scream to everyone, hey I'm lucky I'm Brazilian! All of that passion erupted as I watched " Rio - the movie".
The music, the birds dancing samba, the perfect cartoon version of the streets I used to walk on or the wonders I used to see while riding on the bus to work in the morning in Rio. It was not only the scenery, but also the mood! The happy and optimistic feeling ingrained in most Cariocas, that no matter what happens, everything will be all right.
I felt so lucky to have been born and raised in Brazil and have experienced so much joy throughout my life. I want Miss B to have the opportunity to have that too and feel what it's like to be Brazilian.
I know she struggles with Portuguese, I know she was born and raised in here. But... She is naturally a happy kid. She was even born on a Saturday, carnaval time in Brasil! So that shouldn't be too hard, right?!
During the movie, every time the birds started to dance samba, she would quickly get off her chair and started to dance and shake her little bootie ("rebola, rebola!") as well. In those moments, I thought to myself, this is my Brazilian Bianca, this is my Blu!!! A brasileirinha who is naturally happy and who finds pleasure and joy in small things. There is hope!!!
