Up to this point, B had been in two theater plays, not counting the short skits at school. This Summer she asked me for specifically three camps: Minecraft, Drawing and a tone of theater. I managed to find her two musical theater camps and a class on musical theater.
This year, I decided to try a new place that was solely focused on arts as opposed to a school that offered a variety of camps, including theater. Annie last year was a turning point for her in terms of getting her more interested in acting. I wanted to make sure she understood she does not always get the major role and especially in a new place where they do not know what she is capable of and how she will handle the stage.
She seemed to enjoy it from the get-go and was satisfied with her role as neverlander #1 in Peter & Wendy, even though she really wanted the Tinkerbell role.
I reminded her about our previous conversations and she said she was ok with her role and came home every day very excited after summer camp.
In fact, she would come home so excited and speaking so loud that I had to remind her that she was no longer on stage. Hahaha. She was also happy with the many friends she made.
The show this past Saturday was the best production she has been in so far and the one that gave her the best and more thorough theater experience. It was super well-organized, really to the tees. The kids were very well rehearsed and yet they made it so much fun for them. The costumes looked great, the make-up, the scenarium, the work done by the kids that was exposed at the theater lobby, all the details…Truly thoughtful and professional work.
It was amazing what the kids and the directors could accomplish in one week.
Throughout the show, it was evident how much she enjoyed what she was doing and how much of herself she left it all out there.
At the end of the show, she got flowers from her best friend and got our biased but true admiration for the little lady she is becoming: happy, disciplined, self-assured, fully committed to do her best and a passionate girl who wears her heart on her sleeve.
